English, international Kindergarten in Rheinfelden – get to know us

In our bilingual Kindergarten near Basel, we care for children from the age of four. The languages used in daily interaction – as in our bilingual daycare, primary school and secondary school in Rheinfelden – are English and German. Children without prior knowledge of either language are also very welcome.

Early childhood multilingual development is based on an international educational framework, the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). The IB PYP promotes a holistic and humanistic approach to education. Children are encouraged to ask questions and think conceptually, enabling them to become independent, curious and respectful individuals in a global context.

Full-day or part-time care available: Our bilingual kindergarten offers various options to support each child individually. The IB PYP with English and German as languages of instruction is offered within the full-day structure. However, the mandatory local school curriculum can already be covered with five half-days, ideally in the mornings. Children who attend the public kindergarten can join us for additional support on two half-days.

Forest education in the English kindergarten Rheinfelden: Free play in nature has always been part of our philosophy. We spend time outdoors with the children several times a day – in all weather conditions. Forest education is a fixed and important part of our curriculum. Our children spend half a day per week in a nearby forest, where we have built a special learning and rest area together with parents, including a “forest sofa” made of branches. In the afternoons, we often visit a playground in a green environment.

At what age can children attend the English Kindergarten?

Children can typically attend a bilingual (English-German) kindergarten from around the age of four. Entry usually takes place at the beginning of the school year, but flexible start dates may be possible depending on availability.

Does my child need to speak English or German?

No prior language skills are required. Children are introduced to both languages intuitively and learn quickly through daily exposure to understand and express themselves in both.

How does learning work in a Bilingual Kindergarten?

Learning takes place holistically and through play in everyday situations. Language is integrated into activities such as playing, singing, arts and crafts and movement. Children develop linguistic, social and cognitive skills simultaneously.
